Apple releases updated iTunes Festival app for SXSW performances

Apple today updated its iTunes Festival app ahead of next week’s SXSW iTunes Festival, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 11. As noted by MacStories, the app appears in iTunes with a refreshed icon and new design, but it is still not available to download in some App Stores, including the US. It was predicted that Apple was planning to release iOS 7.1 alongside its iTunes Festival app in the coming days. The appearance of this app with updated release notes that do not mention iOS 7.1 seems to contradict this original rumor. Users in some countries outside the US report being able to download the app to devices running iOS 7.0.6. Apple’s iTunes Festival is making its big US debut next week in Austin, Texas, after being held in London for several years. The festival spans five nights and features artists such as Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Soundgarden, Willie Nelson, Keith Urban, and others. It will be held at Austin City Limits Live at Austin’s Moody Theater. Apple’s iTunes Festival is free for select SXSW attendees, who are awarded tickets via a lottery system. Live and on-demand streams of the performances will be available through the iTunes Festival app and the Apple TV. The iTunes Festival app is available for free from the iOS App Store. Will you be watching the performances live next week? Continue reading
