iPhone 6 concept video envisions a bezel-free sapphire display with self-healing coat

With the iPhone 6, many people expect Apple to completely redesign the look and feel of the device, breaking away from the boxy look that dominated the iPhone 5 and 5s. Realistically, we have no idea what Apple has planned for the handset, but concept designs help us envision what Apple possibly could do with the phone. The latest concept, released by TechRadar, takes a traditional approach, adding a few significant improvements on top of the iPhone’s already distinctive design. TechRadar pictures the iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch high-resolution display (1080 x 1920 pixels) and a bezel-free design that’ll make it easier to use the phone with one hand. This display will be composed of sapphire and will feature a self-healing coat, similar to what is already used by LG in its G Flex smartphone. This coating will hide slight imperfections from everyday usage. The iPhone 6 concept keeps the same basic design of the iPhone 5 with a thinner (5.5mm), slightly more rounded form factor. The home button will be replaced by a button-less TouchID that users can tap to unlock their phone. TouchID will be easier to use and more accurate at reading fingerprints. The back side of the phone will be dominated by a 13-megapixel camera with ring light flash that the concept touts as “the best iPhone camera ever”. If history repeats itself, Apple may unveil its next generation iPhone sometime this fall. Its launch may coincide with the public release of iOS 8, which will take advantage of some of the hardware upgrades expected in the handset. What do you think of this latest concept? Do you have a favorite one thus far? Continue reading
