North American iOS 7.1 adoption climbs to 6% with 24 hours after release

iOS 7.1 was released on Monday, March 10 with a handful of minor changes that improves the performance of Touch ID, blocks several security flaws and adds support for the newly announced CarPlay feature. Similar to other minor iOS revisions, North American adoption of iOS 7.1 was expectedly slow and steady, reports Chitika. According to online metrics firm, the adoption of iOS 7.1 by North American customers reached 5.9% within 24 hours after release. This rate was on par with the security-focused iOS 7.0.6 release, which was installed on 13.3% of iOS devices within 48 hours and on 25.9% within four days. At 5.9%, North American iOS 7.1 adoption has progressed at a very similar rate to iOS 7.0.6. 24 hours following that release, iOS 7.0.6 users generated 6% of total iOS traffic, averaging to about 5% over the course of the full day. Considering Apple’s update notification strategy, along with these two data points, it seems likely that future minor iOS 7 version updates will experience highly comparable levels of adoption. Overall iOS 7 adoption remains strong among iOS owners with over 80% of iOS web traffic coming from an iOS 7.x device. This rate has remained strong with an 81% figure reported in late February. Apple’s next big jump is expected to be powered by the release of iOS 8 later this year. It’ll be a big release with an improved Maps experience and the possible integration of new health-related features that’ll tie in the with the iWatch. Chitika’s data is compiled from millions of U.S. and Canadian online ad impressions generated by iOS owners who are accessing content within the company’s Ad Network. Did you update to iOS 7.1? Is the lack of a jailbreak keeping you on iOS 7.0.6? Let us know in the comments. Continue reading
