Apple to release only a 4.7-inch iPhone model this fall

In a research note to investors, UBS analyst Steve Milunovich claims supply chin checks indicate Apple will release only one iPhone model with large-sized screen later this fall. The launch of this supposed iPhone 6 will kick off iPhone sales in Q3, which will decline in the intervening March and June quarters. Milunovich predicts this new iPhone will sport the in between 4.7-inch display instead of the larger inch screen. It may be sold at a higher price tag than the current 4-inch iPhone 5s, which starts at a $199 subsidized price or $649 full retail price for the 16GB model. “… his “checks” of the supply chain suggest the next iPhone, an “iPhone 6” is most likely to come in August or September, rather than June, in two different models, one with a 4.7-inch screen, one with a 5.5-inch screen. He thinks the former, the smaller of the two, “seems certain,” but that the 5.5-inch model “may or may not launch at the same time and could be of the same resolution (lower pip), which would help app developers.” Previous rumors suggest Apple is working on both a 4.7-inch and a larger 5.5-inch iPhone, which could debut later this fall. It may be 26% thinner than the iPhone 5s, measuring a slim 0.22 inches (5.59 mm) thick versus the 0.30 inches (7.6 mm) of the iPhone 5s. It may also include an Ultra-Retina display with 389 pixels per inch and a 2.6GHz A8 chip. Pegatron, along with Foxconn, are expected to start manufacturing the device sometime in Q2 2014.
