Photos show quick pace of construction at Apple’s Arizona sapphire plant

New photos obtained by AppleInsider show that construction at Apple’s Arizona sapphire plant is moving quickly, with expansion to a nearby building possible as plans for the facility grow. The photos show several buildings and external structures that appear to be near completion. The entrance to the plant already bears the GT Advanced logo and markings presumably for important areas within the facility. Rumors suggest construction is taking place around the clock as workers try to get the plant fully operational by June. Though completion is still a few months away, documents filed with the U.S. International Trade Administration suggest parts of the plant may have gone live in February. Other rumors claim Apple is considering expanding its facility to a building on the site that was formerly owned by photovoltaic panel maker First Solar. Details on this expansion entails and what Apple plans to do with this extra building are unclear. Apple is expected to use the Mesa, Arizona plant to manufacture sapphire for a future Apple device. Prevailing rumors hint at an iPhone 6 or an iWatch with a sapphire glass display.
