Angry Birds developer Rovio said it is working on a new game that is “epic” in more ways than one, reports Kotaku. The new game, Angry Birds Epic, breaks from the traditional Angry Birds slingshot game by offering a role-playing, turn-based combat game. It will be a big move into a new game genre for the company that created one of the most popular mobile games to date. Details are sparse on Angry Birds Epic, but it appears that the game will include the familiar Angry Birds characters in a story-driven campaign. A major feature of the app will be crafting, with the characters being able to create armor, potions and other weapons using resources within the game. An in-app purchase system will make it easy for customers to buy items instead of earn them in the game. The new Angry Birds Epic will soft launch in the Canadian and Australian iOS App Stores later this week. This early version will only be available to iOS owners in those region. The final version will debut internationally on iOS, Android and Windows Phone later this year. Rovio is also working on another new Angry Birds title, Angry Birds Stella, that is geared for female gamers. Described as fun and adventurous, the new universe will offer the same Angry Birds gameplay, but with a distinct female theme that’ll highlight “inspiration, empowerment and other real issues.” ) Continue reading
