Twitter today announced that it is rolling out two new mobile features that will improve the handling of photographs in a Twitter stream. These changes are available now to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. First and foremost is the addition of photo tagging, which lets the person identify other Twitters users who are included in the shot that is being posted to the social network. Up to 10 people can be tagged in a photo without using any of the 140 characters available per tweet. The feature won’t be a free–for-all as privacy options will enable users to restrict who can tag them and notifications will alert them when they are tagged by someone else. A second photo-oriented feature will allow users to upload up to four photos per tweet, making it easier for them to share photos more concisely with their followers. These multiple photos will be arranged in a collage-like grid that is viewable by tapping on a photo to view an individual shot and swiping to cycle through the remaining images in the collage. The two features will hit the iPhone app today with Android and web support coming soon. Though some users won’t be able to upload multiple pictures per tweet, everyone will be able view them regardless of their platform.
