Earlier today, Apple unveiled a new promotion that offers a $25 iTunes gift card with every purchase of an Apple TV. This kicked off speculation that Apple was trying to move existing inventory ahead of a new Apple TV launch. Jim Dalrymple of The Loop squashed this rumor, when he responded with a resounding “Nope” in reply to questions about the Apple TV. Apple’s set-top box business may be a small part of the company’s overall revenue, but it is still generating more than $1 billion in hardware and content sales, said Tim Cook in the company’s annual shareholder’s meeting. The $1 billion figure covers the company’s fiscal year 2013 which started in September 2012 and ended September 2013. Previous rumors suggest Apple’s next generation media device could be announced as soon as April for an end of the year debut. It may ship with support for games, apps and bluetooth gaming controllers.New subscription content may also be part of the package with the company allegedly talking to Time Warner Cable about a possible content deal. Those negotiations may be on the back burner now that Comcast is looking to acquire TWC. Apple may not be ready to launch a new Apple TV device right away, but the company has not forgotten about the platform. Apple has been adding content to the Apple TV at a feverish pace, bringing in new channels from the WWE, ESPN, Red Bull TV and others. Do you have an Apple TV?
