Apple bundling a $25 iTunes Gift Card with the Apple TV; sparks off speculation of next-gen Apple TV

In what is claimed to be a stock clearance drive, Apple is offering a $25 gift card with every purchase of its current gen Apple TV. Rumors of Apple preparing to launch a refresh to this home media device have been floating around the internet for quite a while now, so this new move doesn’t surprise us. Apple has clarified that this deal is valid both in its retail outlets as well as the online store, so you can order one right now to get a nifty $25 iTunes gift card. The offer expires on the 5th of March, so it’s not going to last long. The gift card can be spent on any of Apple’s online services such as iBooks, iTunes, the iOS AppStore or the Mac AppStore. Apple is reportedly working on an all new Apple TV which would merge some features of the current iteration with the Airport Express (such as the Wi-Fi router). It is further claimed that this next generation home STB will also be capable of using bluetooth devices or iPhones/iPads as physical gaming controllers. This opens up the opportunity for a dedicated Apple TV App Store with games and other multimedia related apps. By the looks of it, we get a feeling that the Apple TV refresh is going to be something major. The Cupertino giant is also rumored to be working with Time Warner Cable for a possible content subscription deal. This is all hearsay of course, with no concrete word on either features yet, so you should take this with a grain of salt. [Via: 9to5Mac] Continue reading
