Apple attends US Senate summit on distracted driving

John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation, held a summit with technology companies to talk about distracted driving. The summit is broken down into round tables featuring tech companies such as Apple, Google, Samsung, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and more. Two of the round table discussions included Apple’s Director of Federal Government Affairs, Tim Powerdly. In these discussions, Powerdly and his colleagues talked the current state of in-car technology and ways to build more robust technological solutions to curb distracted driving. Powerdly mentioned Apple’s Siri Eyes Free technology and the company’s upcoming iOS in the Car functionality as ways Apple is creating a hands-free driving experience.
