Apple to use a stepped lithium-ion battery in its iWatch

Apple is allegedly using a lithium-ion battery supplied by Samsung, LG or Tianjin Lishen for its upcoming iWatch, says a report in The Korea Herald. This rumor follows an earlier report that claimed Apple was looking at solar and induction technologies as potential power sources for its iWatch product. The batteries to be used in the iWatch may be stepped batteries, which use a layering arrangement to increase efficiency. These batteries supposedly deliver 16 percent more energy than a traditional battery and can be manufactured to meet different shape requirements. Though Samsung and Tianjin Lishen are mentioned in the rumor, LG may be the most important supplier as the company is supposedly is looking to expand its battery distribution with stepped, curved and cable batteries. An LG representative contacted by The Korea Herald declined to comment on this report. Rumors suggest Apple is working on an iWatch that’ll incorporate fitness technology beyond step tracking. The company has been hiring notable scientists from the medical and health research sector. These experienced researchers may be working on a health band that could measure fitness and health parameters like blood pressure, heart rate, glucose levels, and more.
