Apple Adds WWE to Apple TV in US, TV4 Play in Sweden

Apple recently expanded its channel lineup for the Apple TV, adding the WWE network in the US and TV4Play in Sweden. These channels follow the addition of Red Bull TV to the media streaming device last month. As expected, US customers now can access World Wrestling Entertainment’s new WWE Network. The 24/7 live streaming network offers access to pay-per-view content such as Wrestlemania, original programming, reality TV shows, and classic wrestling matches. “Today is a historic day for WWE as we transform and reimagine how we deliver our premium live content and 24/7 programming directly to our fans around the world,” said Vince McMahon, WWE Chairman & Chief Executive Officer. “WWE Network will provide transformative growth for our company and unprecedented value for our fans.” WWE is a subscription service that requires a $9.99 monthly fee and minimum six-month contract that can be purchased through iTunes. Besides the Apple TV, WWE also released an iOS app that brings WWE programming to iOS devices. While US Apple TV owners can enjoy wrestling, owners in Sweden gain access to content from TV4 Groups live broadcasts, original television episodes and more. Select shows are available in HD, with an increasing number of HD titles slated for rollout in the coming months. Annika Larsson Järund, Head of TV4 Play, says: “We’re incredibly excited to be the first Scandinavian content provider to launch on Apple TV. With HD content from ‘TV4 Play’ on Apple TV it’s even easier for viewers to enjoy the wide range of entertainment and quality broadcasting available from TV4.” TV4Play is providing its Apple TV channel for free, but is offering content for longer period of time and expanding its library of current and previously aired episodes to its premium subscribers. Other features of the Apple TV channel include a play list, a list of favorite shows and a “resume play” option that lets you start watching a show right where you left off. Continue reading
