Tim Cook to meet with Turkish President to discuss $4B educational iPad deal

Apple CEO Tim Cook is on a short world tour, meeting with leaders and Apple resellers in the UAE. Cook is expected to meet with Turkish President Abdullah Gül to discuss the educational purchase of iPads in a deal worth as much as $4B. Details on the topic of conversation between Cook and Gül is not known, but the pair are expected to talk about Turkey’s Faith Project, which would replace the country’s traditional textbooks with the iPad. The initiative would result in the purchase of up to 10.5 million iPads with the option to buy an additional 2.5 million over a 4-year period. The deal could be worth as much as $4 billion to Apple. Cook may also visit Apple’s first retail store in Turkey, which is located in Instanbul’s Zorlu Center and is opening this week.
