Apple CEO Tim Cook said during Apple’s earnings conference call that the company has an interest in Touch ID-assisted mobile payments. These comments come hot on the heels of an earlier report from the Wall Street Journal that suggests Apple is actively working on a mobile payment system.Speaking candidly during Apple’s earnings conference call, CEO Tim Cook talked about mobile payments, saying it was an area that intrigued the company, especially in regards to Touch ID. “The mobile payments area in general is one that we’ve been intrigued with and that was one of the thoughts behind the Touch ID. But we’re not limiting ourselves just to that.” This comment follows a WSJ report from earlier this week that claims Apple is preparing to launch a mobile payment system. The company is talking to industry leaders about mobile payment processing and allegedly has assigned retail executive Jennifer Bailey to head up this project.
