Analyst claims iPhone 6 finalized with 4.8-inch display, 802.11ac

Apple is making progress on the iPhone 6 and allegedly has decided on several key features for its next flagship phone, says a report in AppleInsider. Checks into the supply chain suggest the iPhone will get a larger screen and an updated WiFi radio. In a note to investors, analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company claims the next iPhone will have a 4.8-inch display. This falls in line with earlier rumors that hint at a larger iPhone with a display size in the range of 4.7- to 5.5-inches. Apple likely won’t go much larger than 5-inches as that size pushes the boundaries of what form factor is comfortable for using with one hand. The new iPhone 6 may also ship with 802.11ac. Other products in Apple’s hardware lineup, including the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule, now support this new WiFi standard. The iPhone 5s is limited to 802.11n connections, so it only makes sense that Apple would update its smartphone to be compatible with its other WiFi products. One the software side, Arcuri believes Apple will move forward with its Touch ID, iBeacon and Passbook technology to bring mobile payments to the platform. Passbook was introduced in iOS 6 and has been relatively unused by the company since its debut. Arcuri predicts Apple will stick to its current release schedule and ship the iPhone 6 next September. He also expects Apple will roll out a 13-inch iPad before the end of the year. Continue reading
