iBeacons coming to select Safeway and Giant Eagle grocery stores

iBeacons coming to select Safeway and Giant Eagle grocery stores

Starting today, inMarket is rolling out iBeacons to select Safeway and Giant Eagle stores in three major US cities. This Bluetooth LE technology will land in 200 stores in Seattle, San Francisco and Cleveland. It is part of inMarket’s Mobile to Mortar program, which will deliver saving incentives to shoppers and increase sales for vendors. The iBeacons will be installed at the entry of each store, though in-aisle placement may be available in the future. Customers who want to take advantage of discounts offered by the stores will need to install the Checkpoints app. When the app detects an iBeacon at the entryway of a store, it will push a coupon or other discount to the customer’s phone. The initial rollout will target these 200 pilot stores, with deployment to over 2,000 stores in 20 different markets by the end of 2014. [Via AppleInsider] Continue reading
