BlackBerry accuses Ryan Seacrest-backed Typo keyboard of stealing its design

BlackBerry may be struggling financially, but that isn’t stopping the company from pursuing a patent infringement lawsuit against Ryan Seacrest-backed Typo Products, LLC.Typo is a Los Angeles startup found by “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest and Laurence Hallier. The company designed a keyboard attachment for the iPhone that borrowed heavily from BlackBerry’s design. So heavily, that the keyboard looked like someone ripped the bottom half off a BlackBerry Q10 and tacked it onto the iPhone 5 or 5s. “This is a blatant infringement against BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard, and we will vigorously protect our intellectual property against any company that attempts to copy our unique design,” said BlackBerry to the Wall Street Journal. Typo unveiled its keyboard last year and has been taking orders on its website. The product is expected to ship sometime in January and costs $99. Continue reading
