In April 2012, Jay Freeman aka saurik, founder of Cydia had added a safe mode feature to the Mobile Substrate that allowed jailbreakers to recover from a reboot loop problem after installing a horribly broken tweak. Previously, most reboot loop issues forced users to restore their device, which can be a time consuming process and could also result in data loss if the device hasn’t been backed up. The good news is that saurik has just released an update for Substrate Safe Mode to add support for iOS 7 and 64-bit A7 devices like iPhone 5s. saurik notes that “as of version 0.9.4000 this package is even safer on iOS 7 (and on ARM64).” The safe mode feature allows you to bypass horribly broken tweaks that you may have installed by pressing the volume up button while the device is booting up, so you can open Cydia and uninstall them. It is highly recommended that you install the Substrate Safe Mode 0.9.4000 update via the Changes tab in Cydia so that you can recover from a reboot loop problem.
