Fitbit adds MobileTrack to its iPhone app, allows you track steps using an iPhone 5s

Fitbit updated its iOS app today, adding a new feature that’ll open the app up to iPhone 5s owners who are curious about the Fitbit tracker, but haven’t made the jump and purchased the wearable fitness device. The new feature, called MobileTrack, allows you to use an iPhone 5s to track your basic activity, even if you don’t own a Fitbit device. The Fitbit app taps into the data from the iPhone’s M7 motion co-processor and uses that information to report your steps, distance traveled and calories burned. It’s just a taste of what is available when you use a physical Fitbit tracker, which tracks other metrics like sleep, active minutes and more. Besides the new M7 support, the updated Fitbit app now has several new and updated features such as: Redesigned Silent Alarms settings. Set, switch, edit, and remove alarms faster than ever. Set your own custom water goal. Redesigned profile editor. Redesigned tracker settings. Redesigned sign-up and sign-in. Tap on people in Friend Finder to see their profile. Swipe on friends on your leaderboard to Cheer, Taunt, or Message. Tap on tabs to auto-scroll to the top. Fitbit is one of many fitness apps to add support for the M7 motion co-processor in the past few months. Other notable apps include Moves, Runkeeper, and the Nike+ Move app. You can download the Fitbit app for free from the iOS App Store. Continue reading
