Apple adds FaceTime audio calling to OS X Mavericks 10.9.2

Apple rolled out a new developer version of OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 today and introduced a few new exciting features, says a report by 9to5mac. Besides a few minor tweaks in Mail, Apple allegedly added support for FaceTime audio in its Messages and FaceTime apps. So what does this mean for users? 9to5Mac didn’t elaborate on the changes, but they did say that FaceTime audio has been “integrated deeply” into both the Messages and FaceTime apps. This likely means OS X owners will be able to send and receive FaceTime audio calls with other OS X and iOS owners. It would be very similar to how Skype works — allowing users to make video calls, audio calls and send text-based messages between users. The biggest difference between cross-platform FaceTime audio and Skype is that it would (presumably) work seamlessly across devices and would not require users to install a new app and login with new credentials.
