Samsung challenges Apple for top spot in Canada’s smartphone market

Worldwide, Apple and Samsung are battling for top spot in the smartphone market, with Samsung out shipping its rival in most countries. In Canada, Apple edges out Samsung, but that lead my be slipping says research company Ipsos Reid in its recent Mobil-ology study. As reported by itbusiness.ca, results from the August 2013 show that Samsung is gaining on Apple among Canadian consumers. The survey revealed that 33 percent of consumers use and iPhone, while 29 percent now use a Samsung device. This is up significantly from August 2011, when Samsung only grabbed 5 percent of the smartphone market share. Globally, Samsung is the leader with 32.1 per cent market share, according to recent figures from Gartner. Apple is in second place with 12.1 percent of the market, making it the only other handset maker with double figure market share. Following the leaders are a cluster of companies including Lenovo with 5.1 percent market share, LG with 4.8 percent, and Huawei with 4.7 percent. [Via Patently Apple] Continue reading
