How the iPad gives NBA players a competitive edge

Though the Portland Trial Blazers beat the New York Knicks on Monday in the team’s 11th straight win, the real story can be found on the bench, where athletes are using Apple technology to improve their game. As reported by SB Nation’s Blazers, several members of the Trail Blazers use iPads as an integral part of their court side game. The iPads are used to both check their own game and examine the strategy of their opponents. Wesley Matthews and LaMarcus Aldridge were the biggest advocates of the new technology. Matthews told Blazersedge that he uses the tablet to examine plays on both sides of the ball. On his offensive touches, he’s concerned with his shooting form, whether he’s rushing his shots, and whether there were additional options available to him when the ball swings his way. On defensive plays, Matthews is checking for his stance, his spacing relative to his opponent, and how players are scoring on him. This all done using video that is captured during the game and sent almost immediately to the iPad. When they players come out for a shift, they can pull up their clips and review the previous plays. It allows them to make adjustments early in the game instead of waiting for the half-time break. According to the players who use it, it gives them a serious competitive advantage.
