Apple’s SVP of design Jony Ive and industrial designer Marc Newson were interviewed on The Charlie Rose Show about their collaboration to make customised products for a charity auction, whose proceeds would go towards Product (RED). The duo has designed a custom, one-of-a-kind Leica camera, an aluminium desk, a special red Mac Pro, and gold EarPods. The interview aired last night in some regions, and is going to be aired again tonight. Bloomberg has posted the entire 38-minute interview, which we’ve embedded below: An excerpt from the interview quotes Ive as saying: Simplicity is refining and being able to define the very essence of what something does and therefore, you understand what it is and you understand what it does. But simplicity, I think for us, is not just the absence of clutter, it’s not just stuff that’s not there, it’s this tremendous gravity to trying to find that very simple solution. Here’s are a few of the custom products Ive and Newson have designed: A special edition Mac Pro customised by Ive and Newson Ive and Newson’s custom-made Leica camera A pair of Solid Rose Gold EarPods The (RED) desk made of anodised aluminium You can learn more about the Ive and Newson’s auction by watching the video below: [via MacRumors, @charlierose] Continue reading
