Hyundai, the Korean carmaker has announced that it will be adding support for Apple’s CarPlay technology to its automobiles. Hyundai will bring Apple CarPlay technology first to the new 2015 Sonata, which was unveiled earlier today and will go on sale in June. It will make Hyundai one of the first car makers to include support for Apple CarPlay. From Hyundai’s press release: Hyundai’s latest Audio Video Navigation (AVN) systems are already recognized for their beautiful, yet intuitive interface and advanced feature set. Our engineers took advantage of the vivid eight-inch touchscreen to integrate CarPlay for an experience that iPhone users will instantly recognize. A Sonata equipped with CarPlay, lets drivers have the ability to make calls, use Maps, listen to music and access messages. It does look like the CarPlay technology will be available only in the premium Navigation systems, which includes the 8-inch touch screen display that is part of the technology package, and not in the base model which comes with the 5-inch display. Apple unveiled its CarPlay system last month and showcased the technology at the Geneva Auto Show last month. The system connects a lightning cable-equipped iPhone to a car’s in-dash display and allows the driver to message, navigate and playback music via Siri voice commands. [via Hyundai] Continue reading
